Basilica Saint Therese
This remarkable monument is the second-most visited religious site in France (after Lourdes), with over two million visitors each year. The tour of the site includes the 300-step climb to the 95m high dome right at the top!
Some free time on the pedestrian high streets of central Lisieux for some souvenir shopping afterwards. Perhaps a visit to the Merimee Chocolaterie, the region’s luxury chocolatier that offer a demonstration with tastings to visiting groups.
Château Guillaume le Conquerant
Dominating the skyline of Falaise, the Chateau de Guillaume le Conquerant is a fantastic medieval castle to visit. The group will learn about the origins of William The Conqueror and the Duchy of Normandy. Hand-held tablets are provided to the students, with ‘augmented-reality’ to bring to life the castle’s many rooms.
D-Day Landings
The circular cinema Arromanches 360 depicts the events of the D-Day Landings.
The beach nearby at Arromanches-les-Bains still contains the remnants of the artificial harbour from WW2 which can be freely explored also. There would also be time to visit the nearby British Normandy Memorial.
Chateau Canon
Described as one of the ‘architectural gems of the Pays d’Auge’, Chateau Canon has lovely extended grounds, including a ‘secret garden’!
They run a discovery activity for students to explore the site in teams and answer questions as they go.
Chateau de Crevecoeur
The beautiful medieval Chateau de Crevecoeur is one of the popular heritage tourist sites of the Pays d’Auge. As well as exploring the site, which has a medieval keep and extensive grounds, the group could also have a workshop to learn about medieval history.
Bayeux Tapestry
Please note that the Bayeux Tapestry Museum will be closed to the public from September 2025 until Spring 2027 for extensive refurbishments.
The beautiful historic centre of Bayeux can be explored, with a visit to the famous Bayeux Tapestry Museum, where the group have UK language headsets to discover the story told by the tapestry, followed by a museum visit and film.
